Affordable Housing Multifamily

The Hazel Ying Lee Apts. is a transformative project for our community, making history as the largest development funded by the Portland Housing Bureau. This stunning development achieved the Design Excellence Award by the City of Portland Design Commission.

With 206 affordable homes within 138,000 SF, the four-story building is thoughtfully designed in an X-shaped plan to optimize density and community connection. The project is comprised of a mix of studios and larger family-focused apartments located in the Creston-Kenilworth neighborhood. Thirty homes are Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) for families transitioning out of chronic homelessness. Features include two central courtyards, an amenity terrace, and a range of on-site amenities, including indoor and outdoor play spaces, a computer lab, community rooms, laundry facilities, and raised garden beds. Children residing at the property receive a two gifted books: The Fearless Flights of Hazel Ying Lee by Julie Leung and A Kids Book About Construction by Andrew Colas.

Named after Hazel Ying Lee, a trailblazing Portlander, graduate of nearby Cleveland High School, and the first Chinese American woman to serve as a pilot, flying for the U.S. military during WWII, this landmark project honors her legacy.
