The Owen D. Blank Center, a 13,000 SF, one-story education facility built in 1961, underwent a transformative renovation by COLAS. The project included a seismic retrofit, and a new roof, shear walls, classroom improvements and patio improving structural integrity and functionality. The roof replacement is beneath a full solar array supporting renewable energy- over 70% annually. HVAC and lighting system upgrades further enhance energy efficiency and comfort, while interior renovations optimize the use of space within each classroom, office, along with the kitchen and gymnasium.
In 2014, Albina Head Start recognized Portland attorney Owen D. Blank by naming the building in his honor, celebrating over 20 years of pro bono legal and business support, bolstering the organization’s financial stability, enabling it to continue serving thousands of children and families across Portland.
